Baby falls
On the long drive home, all I could do was be disappointed in myself for not catching the mistake early on in the session. I was afraid that when I reviewed the photos, there would be nothing to work with.
We creatives take a lot of pride and emotion over our work. We dedicate a lot of time into our work before, during, and even after sessions. Tons of research into equipment, into styles, into locations, etc. So when things take the turn for the worst, we feel like there is no other thing or person to blame but ourselves.

One of my very first maternity shoots as Flatline Cinema and it was for one my littles (sorority sister). I fell in love with the location she suggested and the flow of her dress just matched the scenery perfectly.
It was a challenge dealing with the shadows from the sun being directly over us and we were alerted that this was around the time that the snakes were waking up and coming from underneath the rocks. Oh joy.
So many obstacles in front and around us but the biggest obstacle was my actual camera. It wasn’t until mid way through the shoot where I got a funny feeling about the shots. So I reviewed the photos and THEY WERE OUT OF FOCUSED!!
Of course I didn’t catch it before hand because from my view finder it looked focus. I was completely frustrated but I couldn’t let it show so I kept going.
I let the pictures sit for a day just so I can process the possible outcomes. The next day the worst had happened. I immediately zoned in to editing. Making the images are sharp as possible while keeping that natural look to it.
Once I was finished, I can’t lie. I was actually extremely proud of the outcome. We could have had more amazing photos but the right ones were the right ones, no question about it.
You learn something new everyday. Now, I am more aware with checking and double checking my focus on my subject. I also learned how to make something out of nothing.
